Case Study:
Inverted Bodyboarding

Details

Inverted Bodyboarding is a proudly Australian-owned business specialising in top-quality bodyboarding gear for enthusiasts who expect the best. As Australia’s leading bodyboard store, Inverted Bodyboarding is more than just equipment—it’s a lifestyle for its loyal following.

Key services

Inverted Bodyboarding’s online sales and revenue weren’t hitting their potential. While they had a solid community and a great product line, their Google Ads campaigns weren’t performing at peak efficiency and their social media channels weren’t fully optimised to reach and engage new customers. They came to Ooze studios to help increase conversions and expand their reach.

Targeted Meta and Google Ad campaigns with a heavy focus on remarketing delivered a dramatic increase in reach and engagement, with an average Return on Ad Spend (ROAS) of 2300% month-on-month and peaks reaching as high as 4,800% ROAS.

Finding the right audience

While Inverted Bodyboarding had an existing fanbase, they hadn’t yet expanded their reach to new customers or tapped into remarketing strategies. We began by diving deep into their audience with our proprietary two-week audit and discovery phase. Using data-backed insights, we developed detailed customer personas designed to reach new groups, including those with the highest potential to convert.

Crafting the campaign strategy

Working closely with the Inverted Bodyboarding team, we identified key personas and crafted campaigns to resonate with these audiences. Our two-pronged approach included launching Facebook and Instagram ads for new cold audiences who had never bought from or engaged with the brand, and branded Google Search campaigns that would enhance brand visibility and reach.

Focusing on remarketing

Since Inverted Bodyboarding’s products aren’t typically impulse buys (with an average basket around $400-$500), we knew remarketing would be crucial for converting engaged users. These ads are specifically designed to re-engage people who have already shown interest in a product but may need a few more nudges before completing a purchase.

Knowing that not all website actions are made equal, we segmented users based on a range of website actions that indicate varying purchase intent, such as:

  • Viewing a product page without adding to cart
  • Adding items to cart but not checking out
  • Checking out but not purchasing within the last 12 months

With these segments defined, we rolled out Meta ads tailored to each group with Google ads capturing the ‘ready to buy now’ searches. For Google ads, we leveraged Performance Max (PMax), which uses automation to deliver ads across the Google Display Network, YouTube, and Google Shopping. Using our creative elements (video, images, and text), PMax campaigns decided which combination of these will be the most successful in converting the viewer, allowing us to maximise ROAS.

We then continued to monitor and optimise the ad campaigns, continually testing and refining them for the best results.

Campaign results

The results were a game-changer for Inverted Bodyboarding. We achieved a dramatic increase in reach and engagement, with an average ROAS of 2300% month-on-month and peaks hitting 4200% ROAS. In total, we drove $310.2K in revenue from ads in just four months.

Here are some highlights:

  • Dynamic Facebook Carousel Ads: This campaign brought in 77 orders, generating a stunning ROAS of 28.72.
  • Easter Clearance Carousel Ads: For Inverted Bodyboarding’s Easter sale, this ad generated 35 orders with an impressive ROAS of 99.84.

Most importantly, Inverted Bodyboarding reached new, interested audiences and built a foundation for sustained growth.
